Each year, the top paint and color companies release their “Color of the Year” selections. These are based on trends and forecasting for the interior and graphic design industries. For at least half a decade, gray reigned supreme- we saw a huge influx in gray based stains being introduced into final finishes, along with the standard incorporation into paints and fabrics. The last couple of years though, the pendulam has begun to swing back towards the warmer shades. Taupes became popular and this year, several other nature-based shades were named number one. Trends happen in cycles, so beige will become popular again before we make the trek back to gray. This is why it’s so important to identify what you love in your space and stay true to your preferences. Most building projects far outlive the trends and if you make selections that are classic, you’re home will always feel timeless. If you love following trends, wall paint, cabinet hardware and decor accessories are affordable ways to change up your space more frequently.

Below are this year’s Color of the Year selections:

Dunn-Edwards: Art and Craft

Benjamin Moore: October Mist 1495

Sherwin Williams: Evergreen Fog SW 9130

Pantone: Very Peri 17-3938

Valspar: Mountain River

What do you think about the trend back to warmer shades?
